Watkins Hall

Living in Watkins was one of the most formative experiences of my life.

A checkered past: among other pursuits, counselor on the Navajo Reservation, interior architecture in the Bay Area and New Mexico, public school counselor in Albuquerque, now retired.

Two sons, four grandchildren. One kid in LA, one in New Zealand. Good places to visit.

Retirement fun: Meeting my Watkins hallmates every year, traveling to Bhutan, Morocco, Peru, etc., driving my '67 VW bus to Burning Man and becoming a Black Rock Ranger.

Barb Phillips teaching us freshmen how a lady smokes: never walk with a cigarette-put it in an ash tray to carry across the room.

Learning dining etiquette: how to pass the salt and pepper-left hand to the person seated your right with a finger separating the shakers. Never ask for it; the hostess must anticipate your needs (hence a lot of talk about working in the SALT mines).
